26762 Reasons To Smile

26762 reasons to make your kidneys smile.

On August 13th I wrote about a mad campaign to raise money for The Kidney Foundation of Canada. I had noted at that time that wehad two weeks to raise $5000. The reason: Banff Lake Louise Tourism would match any money raised, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5000. Clearly we had to max out the donation.

Flash forward to today2 and the fundraising campaign has ended. How did we do? How’s $6762 sound to you? Because it sounds pretty awesome to me. That money couldn’t have been raised without your support, so a huge thank you to all who donated or spread the word. This wouldn’t have happened without you.

Our next mission is to climb three mountains: Cascade Mountain, Sulphur Mountain, and Mount Temple. If we do, we’ll also be handed a cheque for an additional $15000 to donate to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

That puts our grand total at $26762: $15000 for climbing the mountains, $6762 raised during the fundraising campaign, and $5000 matched by Banff Lake Louise Tourism.

You may notice some nice properties about this value. First, it’s a rather awesome palindrome3. Second, consider the average amount raised per climber – $13381 per person. Notice anything special about $13381? That’s correct, 13381 is prime. How awesome is that?

Of course, it’s even more amazing that The Kidney Foundation of Canada will receive this money. The work that they do is instrumental in helping the estimated 2.6 million Canadians who suffer or are at risk of developing kidney disease in Canada.

While the fundraising efforts for this particular campaign have ended, Rick is also taking part in the Kidney March this September. Click here to help him out. You can also help out by filling our your organ donor card, or registering here.

Thank you again to everyone who made this fundraiser so successful.

1 We being myself, and my friend Rick Chin – who was the official winner of the Banff Lake Louise Tourism’s Big Mountain Challenge.

2 I realize that today isn’t 2 weeks later, however the clock started the minute Rick was informed that he had won the contest.

3 Amazingly I didn’t notice this immediately. Rick let me know via email.
